Provide a position description
that will describe the internship responsibilities. Make
sure to include the name of the organization, internship
title and description, qualifications required, duration
of employment, compensation information, location, and
application process. If students are acquiring academic
credit for the internship, they may be required to complete
an Internship Learning Agreement from their academic department,
that they are responsible for sharing with you. This is
an opportunity for you and the student to clearly define
the job duties that will be performed during this time-limited
internship period.
Appoint a mentor/supervisor
during the experience. Be sure that the mentor/supervisor
has the time to oversee the student’s performance
and offer constructive feedback.
Provide an orientation
for the student to the work site. Introduce the student
to the organization, the employees, the physical layout,
and the order of responsibility. Familiarize the student
intern with the general policy and procedures of operation
for the organization as a whole. Inform him/her of the
rules and expectations to be followed.
Provide the necessary resources
- desk, computer, equipment, supplies, and space –
for the student to perform his/her duties.
Abide by CAPS set
deadlines for interviewing, selection and evaluation
processes.
Complete the evaluation
form(s) provided by CAPS giving feedback
on the overall internship experience including student
preparedness, recommendations for future placements and
program development considerations.
Co-sign a certificate
with the office of Career Advising & Placement Services
(CAPS) acknowledging the student’s internship duration
(in case of satisfactory evaluation from the host company).
