Job Shadowing

Students say ...
"A great experience. I came in touch with another world; the real world. I never could have imagined how a real working day in the marketing department of a FMCGs company is or how financial analysts in brokerage firms spend their day. Now I know where I want to head with my career choice. A word of thanks to my mentors ... your time and efforts have been well invested."

Employers say ...
"It is a very rewarding and satisfying experience to feel that you have really contributed to the future of a younger generation. Your time becomes worthwhile and well invested."

In Job Shadowing, a corporate member hosts a student to experience the day-to-day tasks of his/her job. The program allows students to gain exposure to various career fields and help them make a sound career decision. This process may result in a mentorship relationship that would guide the students throughout the career planning process.

Required Time
We recommend at least 1-2 working days at the company’s premises. Although job shadowing can take place any time during the academic year, it is ideally conducted during the mid-year recess (generally in January).

Your role
You can carry out your regular work responsibilities and the student will act as your "shadow", learning through observation. During the day, you may need to allocate some time within your schedule to talk to the student about your work and its significance to the organization, and respond to any inquiries s/he may have.

Suggested activities
During the job shadowing visit, students may be invited to attend staff or corporate meetings whenever it doesn't contradict with confidentiality policies. A site visit and sharing of information about the company, field and job responsibilities are also helpful.

If you are interested in volunteering the time and offering a shadowing experience to an AUC student in your field of profession, please complete the online form.
